Traditional Vietnamese wedding!

We've had a fantastic last couple days!! We spent sometime around Duong Dong on our scooter checking out shops and all that stuff. Thai took us to the resort where he is night manager. A beautiful place, well out of our price range, he he. We could tell that we were in a little more of a tourist area on Phu Quoc because it took a while for me to find pho for lunch, too much western influence. Well, just the beginnings of it really. In the future Phu Quoc will be very western/commercialized i'm sure. A shame. Right now, however, it is a great place to holiday for certain.
It's funny how things work sometimes. We booked our hotel in Kep Cambodia for the next couple nights, planning to leave Phu Quoc, but were stymied due to a broken down ferry. Alas we had to stay another night, poor us, another day on the beach. But the great thing is, that night we were invited for ice-cream with our friend Thai, and the night developed quite nicely indeed. As we arrived at the coffee shop, Thai was late but another table invited us to join them. We later found out they were two brothers, and in turn they were joined by two more, another brother and their father. Next thing you know, they invited us to join them at a traditional Vietnamese wedding. Who could say no to that! Thai arrived and they invited him as well and payed for our drinks at the cafe. They then parked our scooter at their hotel and we all walked together with the whole family to the wedding. It was awesome!! There was loud music, a little pyrotechnics and you guessed it..... Karaoke!!! The food was amazing! The culture here is so welcoming. Even the elder at the table served us, to which Thai informed us is a great show of respect. We were very great full. We were also quick to learn that declining drinks or food is rude. So we had to have our full of both. And believe me, they don't mess around with the beers here. Each table has two or three flats of beer right off that bat and they hit it hard. Every five minutes or so someone at the table raises their glass for a Yo! The Vietnamese cheers. Everyone always drinks together, you never take a drink by yourself. They also dictate how much of the glass you drink. One of the ladies was always trying to get Alanna to drink the full mug, hilarious! Alanna did as good as she could. So hence, we left full, and had a big ol' buzz to go with it.
They then escorted us back to their hotel, most of the way arm in arm with Alanna and I. They show their affection openly between men and men and women and women. It is very normal here for two men or women to openly hug or walk in an embrace. It is a beautiful thing.
A few pictures of some carpenters building the frame for a grass hut for my carpenter buddies. Those hip rafter tails are a pain in the ass to cut here as well it would seem, ha. A few too many sunset pictures, they get you very time. Off to Kep Cambodia tomorrow morning. All the best everyone
